Communicating during COVID-19: 3 Strategies for Email
During the COVID-19 crisis, it’s become much more challenging to communicate with your customers. At Articulate Solutions, a Bay Area marketing firm and creative agency, we have come up with three communication strategies for email that you can implement right now to reinforce your brand and build customer loyalty.
- Check in with your customers. As everyone struggles to adapt to the new “Shelter in Place” guidelines, it’s a good idea to send a brief email to your customers and let them know you are still working for them. Make it clear how you are handling the situation and how they can contact you. Take advantage of this time to manage your email list as well: invite new people to join, and remove inactive or invalid subscribers.
- Provide quality content that adds value. Be proactive and share creative ways you are serving your customers’ needs, whether that’s offering free delivery or curbside pickup, setting up an online portal to submit documents, sharing video content, offering virtual meetings, or providing additional services. Engagement rates on email are up 50%—that means more people are actually reading their emails than they were previously.
- Choose joy and promote positivity. If you are hopeful and positive, your customers will thank you for it—and they’ll be more likely to turn to you when they’re ready to begin making purchasing decisions again. They’ll see you as an entity that cares and understands them. This is a basic branding idea—think about how you want your customers to feel when they experience your brand. Right now, the world needs hope and positivity. Emulate that in your emails and other communications. With so much uncertainty in the world, you can establish yourself as a source of calm and confidence for your customers.
Email is just one of many important tools for communicating with your customers during COVID-19. Stay tuned for upcoming blog articles with specific tips on ways to use social media to communicate during these challenging times.
